Our House in the Middle of the Street

Our House

What are the earliest memories of the place you lived in as a child? Describe your house. What did it look like? How did it smell? What did it sound like? Was it quiet like a library, or full of the noise of life? Tell us all about it, in as much detail as you can recall.

I grew up in a home where oldies always playing in the background. Earth, Wind, & Fire, The Commodore’s, Diana Ross, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson’s,  Michael Jackson, just to make a few. Dominoes bring played loudly at one table, while cards where being played at another. Adult teams battling each other for bragging rights.

The children were in other parts of the house batting each other in UNO, War (I declare war),    Slap Jacks, checkers, and our own version on spades and finally Monopoly.

There was always an aroma of collard or mustard greens in the atmosphere. Banana pudding pie, homemade ice cream, and you can’t forget the lemon icebox pie, oh my.

There was also another side when it was just my mother and me. As i youth i had my cat, Mickey, from elementary school to after high school. I never knew if he was a male or female, but I always referred to Mickey as him or her. Our house, for the most part of the week, was quiet. I didn’t like much noise for a long period of time. Which is probably why I would get annoyed after a while at family gatherings.

My childhood abs house is priceless to me. All of the love, arguments, fights, hugs abs kisses, births as well as home goings make me who I am today. A hot mess. 😉
